Becoming a Dart and Flutter Google Developer Expert
- After actively promoting Dart as a replacement for JavaScript and working with Polymer Dart and AngularDart, I wanted to pitch an AngularDart book and training course.
- I visited my friend Wm Leler, who worked at the Google office in Portland.
- When I pitched the idea, Wm told me: "You don't want to get into AngularDart." (Google was preparing to phase out external support for AngularDart, which he could not disclose at the time).
- Instead, Wm showed me Flutter's hot-reload feature at his desk.
- I remarked: "This is game changing."
- Wm replied: "We know."
- I went home that night, installed Flutter, built my first app, and saw a custom app icon on my phone that did not come from the app store.
- Impressed by the Technology and leveraging my early Dart expertise, Wm proposed my nomination as a Flutter Google Developer Expert (GDE) shortly thereafter, leading to my official designation nearly 8 years ago.
