Loreto Dockside Translation
- During the Geek Cruises Oracle Odyssey 2002 voyage, I visited Loreto, Mexico, located along the east coast of the Baja California Peninsula inside the Sea of Cortez.
- While stopping at a bar near the cruise ship dock, I noticed that the local Mexican staff spoke very little English, and my fellow American tourists were struggling to order and communicate.
- Stepping up to help, I put my practical "bar Spanish" to excellent use—rattling off useful phrases like "¿cuánto cuesta?"—to smoothly translate and bridge the gap between the thirsty tourists and the local bartenders.
