Web2000 International and Bill Harps Clown Costume Party
Web2000 International and Bill Harp's Clown Costume Party
- In October 2000, Bill Harp and I attended the Web2000 International (Web2K) conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
Halloween Party Costumes
- Since one of the major evening social events coincided with Halloween, Bill adamantly insisted that we go all out and dress up in full costume.
- We hunted down a local costume rental store, where Bill took complete creative charge of our outfits:
- Me as a Felon: Bill insisted I get a classic black-and-white striped "prisoner" outfit, complete with a pair of handcuffs. I wore this "felon status" jail suit to the party, which drew a lot of laughs and playful jokes from the crowd, captured in the photo Trips/2000/00-10-Web2KJavaJam/Web2K/088-Measfelon!.jpg.
- Bill as the Clown: For himself, Bill selected a full, traditional clown suit—complete with oversized floppy shoes, professional face paint, and a classic red nose, captured in Trips/2000/00-10-Web2KJavaJam/Web2K/087-Billasclown.jpg.

Stealing the Show: The "Rented Clown" Revelation
- Once we arrived at the blowout party, Bill didn't just wear the costume; he completely embodied the character.
- He spent the entire evening entertaining the attendees, performing close-up magic tricks, and blowing up custom balloon animals on demand for the crowd, captured in Trips/2000/00-10-Web2KJavaJam/Web2K/116-Billclownsaround.jpg.
- He was so natural and professional that the conference organizers later came up to me and remarked, "Wow, you actually went out and rented a professional clown for this party!"
- I grinned and replied: "No, you've already met him. That's Bill!"
- The organizers' jaws immediately dropped in absolute disbelief that our gregarious Stonehenge business partner and marketing creative was the one inside the facepaint and oversized shoes.
