- Alan Dyer is a Canadian astrophotographer, author, and leading authority on astronomy gear.
- He is well-known for his frequent reviews of telescopes and astrophoto equipment in Sky & Telescope since 1996, and is the co-author of The Backyard Astronomer's Guide. Asteroid 78434 is named in his honor.
- Was a presenter on the Cosmic Trails 2 Cruise in March 2011.
