  • Bebo White is a distinguished computer scientist and physicist who worked at the SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) and is widely recognized as a pioneer of the World Wide Web.
  • Key Historical Milestones

    • Second Website in the World: In December 1991, after visiting CERN and meeting with Tim Berners-Lee, Bebo set up the very first web server in North America at SLAC, which was the second web server/website in the world.
    • This historic server ran on an IBM VM/CMS mainframe and made SPIRES (Stanford Physics Information Retrieval System) databases accessible via the early Web.
  • Connection to Me

    • Bebo participated as a speaker/guest on a couple of Geek Cruises voyages, joining me and other internet and open-source pioneers to share early web and scientific computing history.
