- James Deibele was an early technology and bulletin board system (BBS) pioneer in Portland, Oregon. He ran the technical bookstore TECHbooks and later founded Teleport, which became Portland's largest internet service provider.

- James agreed to distribute autographed copies of the first edition of the Camel book through TECHbooks in 1990.
