C Programming Language

  • C Programming Language

  • The C programming language is a general-purpose, procedural programming language developed between 1972 and 1973 by Dennis Ritchie at Bell Labs for implementing the Unix operating system.
  • In 1977, Randal Schwartz discovered the C source directories while exploring a Unix V6 PDP-11 at Reed College over a 110-baud dialup connection, self-teaching himself the language directly from system source files. See First Unix Experience in 1977.
These facts are as Randal recalls them, but much time has passed for most of this. If you find a factual error, please email realmerlyn@gmail.com.
