Decimal Point Pricing Pet Peeve
Decimal Point Pricing Pet Peeve
- A humorous critique of a retail sign displaying incorrect units for a decimal price.
The Pet Peeve
- On December 23, 2022, I drove by a sign that triggered one of my pet peeves: listing a price as ".39ยข/lb".
- Writing it with both a decimal point and the cents symbol mathematically means less than half a penny per pound, rather than 39 cents.
- I commented on the stupidity of this common error and wondered if the sub-penny rate was legally enforceable.
These facts are as Randal recalls them, but much time has passed for most of this. If you find a factual error, please email realmerlyn@gmail.com.
