Keto Health Journey

  • Keto Health Journey

  • The story of my life-saving transition to a low-carb, high-fat (LCHF) ketogenic lifestyle in 2012.
  • The Wake-Up Call

    • On August 4, 2012, during my first clinical visit in years, my doctor recorded a blood pressure of 170/110 and noted I was 30 pounds overweight.
    • The doctor warned me: "You're about 2 to 3 years away from having a stroke or something more drastic. Is that what you want?"
    • Initially, I justified my Health by thinking I had already done so much in the world and that any extra time was "gravy."
  • The Turnaround

    • On August 26, 2012, I visited Neil Bauman and discussed my situation. Seeing Neil's regimen of daily pills made me realize my attitude was selfish; my family, friends, and communities would be devastated if I passed away.
    • On August 27, 2012, I posted my "I will live to be 70" manifesto on Google+ to hold myself publicly accountable.
    • Shortly after, I ran into Andy Lopez, a construction worker who introduced me to eating butter in coffee and restricting carbs. He pointed me to Tom Naughton's film Fat Head, which explained the LCHF protocol.
  • Results

    • I adopted a ketogenic diet. In the first six months, my weight dropped from 220 to 175 lbs, my waist shrank from 38.5 to 31.5 inches, and my blood pressure dropped to 110/70 without medications.
