LISA 2001 and the Hot Wings Promotion

  • LISA 2001 and the Hot Wings Promotion

  • In December 2001, I attended the Large Installation System Administration (LISA) conference in San Diego, California.
  • The New Camaro Road Test

    • I had recently purchased a brand-new Chevrolet Camaro Z28.
    • To give the high-performance sports car a proper long-distance road test, I chose to drive it all the way from my home in Portland, Oregon, down to San Diego for the conference.
  • The Hot Wings Promotion: Cheers & Jeers

    • At the conference, my company Stonehenge Consulting Services, Inc. enlisted a couple of Hooters Girls as "boothbabes" to represent our brand on the trade show floor.
    • As a promotional stunt, we had the Hooters Girls deliver hot wings directly to the trade show floor.
    • The stunt sparked a highly divided reaction from the conference attendees:
      • Cheers: Many attendees enthusiastically welcomed the hot wings and the high-energy promotion.
      • Jeers: Others expressed strong disapproval or unhappiness with the use of "boothbabes" on the trade show floor, highlighting a classic debate in technology conference marketing.
