Maturin Venezuela Conference and Learning Perl

  • Maturin Venezuela Conference and Learning Perl

  • In October 2006, I traveled to Maturín, Venezuela to present at a week-long open-source conference.
  • Teaching Perl in Spanish

    • During the conference, I presented a full-day Learning Perl tutorial that was translated into Spanish.
    • It was an incredible experience teaching my signature curriculum to a highly enthusiastic South American developer audience.
  • Keynotes & Free Software

    • In addition to the tutorial, I delivered a keynote presentation titled "Free software: a look back, a look ahead", exploring the history and future trajectory of the open-source movement.
  • Travel Sequence

    • This trip marked the beginning of a massive autumn travel marathon:
      • I flew to Maturín, Venezuela for the week-long conference.
      • Right afterward, I flew to Miami and stayed in a hotel along the main road of South Miami Beach, Florida for a relaxing week-long transition.
      • Immediately following my beach week, I embarked on the m/s Veendam for the Geek Cruises MacMania 5 voyage in the Caribbean.
