The Broken Blender Bartending Rule
The Broken Blender Bartending Rule
- A short anecdote about my time operating a bar and the classic rule of bartending.
The Rule
- During the dot-com boom, my best friend Bill Harp and I briefly owned a bar in Eastern Oregon (the Tropidera Bar in La Grande, Oregon).
- During my single shift working behind the bar as a bartender at the Tropidera, the most critical piece of advice I learned was: "The blender is broken."
- Saying this is a time-honored trick in the bar service industry to avoid making labor-intensive blended drinks when the bar is busy.
These facts are as Randal recalls them, but much time has passed for most of this. If you find a factual error, please email realmerlyn@gmail.com.
