Walking Across the Hallway to Intel with Keith Lofstrom
Walking Across the Hallway to Intel with Keith Lofstrom
- In late 1989, when the BiiN joint venture collapsed, management immediately let go of all outside contractors.
The Chance Hallway Encounter
- BiiN shared an office building in Hillsboro, Oregon with a small division of Intel.
- On the very day I was canned and heading out the door with my belongings, I ran into my friend Keith Lofstrom in the common corridor.
- I told Keith that BiiN had just pulled the plug and let all the contractors go.
- Without missing a beat, Keith smiled and said:
"Hey, we're hiring!"
The Immediate Transition
- Keith walked me over to the Intel side of the building.
- I interviewed on the spot and was hired immediately, literally walking across the hallway to start work the very next weekโtransitioning from BiiN technical writing to system administration for Intel's elite iWarp supercomputing engineering team.
- This serendipitous hallway conversation kicked off a four-year tenure contracting across Intel's Oregon campuses.
