  • A personal Travel anecdote about my first experience riding in a Waymo driverless car.

  • The Ride

    • On Friday, November 14, 2025, while visiting San Francisco, I decided to take a short, low-risk try in a Waymo driverless car, riding for about a half-mile.
    • It was a surreal and weird experience seeing no driver in the front seat.
    • The vehicle navigated the narrow streets of SF remarkably well, negotiating spaces with two lanes of parked cars and a single lane in the middle for traffic.
    • My only critique was wishing they provided an audio chat interface so I could "talk to the driver" to ask questions.
    • At the time, there were reports that Waymo would soon permit freeway travel from SF down to Silicon Valley.
