  • Personal Homepage

  • My long-standing personal homepage and professional archive (known online as merlyn), hosted at http://www.stonehenge.com/merlyn/ since the mid-1990s.
  • Content & Purpose

    • Hosts an extensive digital archive of my columns and technical articles written for publications like Unix Review, Linux Magazine, WebTechniques, and The Perl Journal.
    • Serves as a key resource for the Perl programming community and showcases training courses offered through my company, Stonehenge Consulting Services, Inc..
  • Quirks & Anecdotes

    • Gogopuffs Cereal Experiment:
      • I deliberately included the nonsensical term "Gogopuffs" on my homepage.
      • I chose it to mimic the style of classic Saturday morning cartoon breakfast cereal advertisements.
      • Its purpose was a playful search engine indexing test: people could "Google for Gogopuffs" and instantly find my homepage, charting how search spider crawls responded to highly unique, fake words.
    • The "Twin" Connection: The page famously documents a humorous coincidence regarding actress Mariel Hemingway.
      • She was born on the exact same day as me (November 22, 1961) and only one state over (in Mill Valley, California).
      • On the site, I jokingly refer to us as "twins."
      • After contacting her assistant and sending her one of my books, I received an autographed picture and postcard from her in response.
These facts are as Randal recalls them, but much time has passed for most of this. If you find a factual error, please email realmerlyn@gmail.com.
