  • Dead iPhone 8 Plus and the Cut-Short Tijuana Trip

  • A travel disruption caused by a sudden hardware failure of my iPhone 8 Plus.

  • The Device Failure

    • In December 2018, as I was walking between the elevator and my front door, my iPhone 8 Plus went completely dead.
    • Nothing on the user interface worked: the screen was black, buttons were unresponsive (even in DFU mode), and it refused to play ringtones or Find My iPhone alerts.
    • Oddly, iTunes could still see the device and make backups, and it still showed up on Find My iPhone maps.

  • Cutting the Trip Short

    • Without a working UI, I was forced to resolve the issue at an Apple Store.
    • Because of this, I had to cut my trip to Tijuana short by a couple of days to return home and seek a replacement.
