Bill Harp and the Stonehenge Parties
Bill Harp and the Stonehenge Parties
- A personal recollection of my buddy Bill Harp and the legendary Stonehenge parties.
The Stonehenge Parties & OSCON
- My best buddy for three decades, Bill Harp, had a massive heart attack on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, and sadly passed away at age 45.
- Bill was the master planner behind the massive Stonehenge Consulting Services, Inc. parties at OSCON during the dot-com boom.
- One of his most legendary party planning achievements was coordinating a live alpaca inside the bar for the release party of the Alpaca book (Learning Perl on Win32 Systems).
- Bill also handled our booth presence at major technical events like OSCON and LISA, and we briefly co-owned a bar together in eastern Oregon.
- He was a true "people hacker" who could convince anyone to do almost anything.
- In the early days, he served as a coordinator for the very first Geek Cruises voyage, famously described in a Wired Magazine article as the "human blink tag" (though I had to explain to him what a
<blink>tag meant!).
These facts are as Randal recalls them, but much time has passed for most of this. If you find a factual error, please email realmerlyn@gmail.com.
